Toddler’s room is our designated room for children aged two to three which is full of fun and laughter. Children are always busy and active both indoors and outdoors and separate areas are allocated for children who would like to be alone or quiet. When children first start in the toddler room they will be allocated a key person. Your child’s key person will be your main point of contact if you have any concerns regarding your child’s developmental progress or to share their home achievements. You will also see your child’s key person twice a year at parents evening to share learning journeys and speak about your child’s development. Learning journeys are also available for you to look through on request.
Who works in toddler’s room and what are their qualifications?
We have four staff who consistently work within the toddler room. All are qualified to level three nursery practitioner standards and one has a degree in education. All staff also have paediatric first aid certificates and basic food hygiene.
What curriculum will my child follow?
The curriculum we follow is the Early Years Foundation Stage which is designed to cover 7 areas of learning. We focus on the prime areas of learning with children aged 0-3 which are communication and language, personal, social and emotional development and physical development. These three areas of learning are the most important from birth and build the roots for the rest of children’s learning. There are also four specific areas of learning which are Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. These specific areas strengthen the prime areas and are interconnected in most of our activities. Activities are planned around children’s interests with focussed activities being centred on children’s next steps of learning.
How does the toddler room operate?
Children flow between two rooms and also the outdoor play area all day long. Toddlers love to get messy so we implement as many sensory/messy activities into the day as possible. Children’s interests are incorporated into daily activities and themes that we cover. Children have specific group times with their key person to enable strong relationships to be formed.
Where will my child sleep?
After lunch the majority of our toddlers like to have a nap. All children are provided with a mattress and their own sheet and blanket. Children should be bring their own comforters into nursery e.g. a special teddy, dummy etc. Children go down for a sleep at 12.00pm and most children sleep until 1.00pm/2.00pm. We will follow your child’s home routine as much as possible
How will I know how much dinner my child has eaten/ how long they have slept/toilet/nappies etc.?
Staff write a brief description on the notice board outside toddler room of the daily activities. Staff also individually record how much your child has eaten during meal times, whether nappies have been wet or soiled, potties used, and how long your child has slept for. Staff will verbally communicate this to you when you collect your child.
